Well, me and some friends were talking the other day and somehow got onto the subject of our first experience with horror movies so i was wondering if anyone can remember their first time seeing a horror movie and what drew you to the genre.
The first horror movie i saw was Stephen Kings "IT". I saw it when i was about 4 with my dad and ever since then I've just been into the darker side of things.

I remember watching Day of the Dead in USA network, and having my finger on the "flashback" button in case the parents came in. I remember the scene where the zombie gets the shovel in the mouth and has its head severed from the upper jaw up and the head is sitting upside down on the ground and the eyes are looking back and forth, it blew my mind trying to figure out "How did they do that?"
Day of the Dead ramains in my top 5 films of all time to this day.

I'm not exactly sure of which one I saw first, but I remember buying the original Night of the Living Dead on vhs at a thrift store when I was really young so it was either that or one of the Friday the 13th movies on tv.

The earliest horror movie experience I remember is watching A Nightmare on Elm Street at a birthday party back when I was about nine or ten. This was shortly after it was released on video, I think. It scared the living shit out of me, as I think it may have been the first horror movie that I'd ever watched from start to finish. My mom was pissed--she still talks about the incident to this day.
I also remember seeing Return of the Living Dead during its run on HBO back in '87 or so. First it scared me, but watching Linnea Quigley's graveyard dance left me obsessed. I recorded it and watched it over and over until I was desensitized enough to really enjoy horror flicks.
To this day, those two movies rank highest amongst my favorites.

I grew up in the Chicagoland area, so when I was but a wee rug monkey I used to sneak out of bed to watch Creature Feature on the tube whilst my parents were watching it. Sometimes I'd get caught and sent back to bed, other times I was invited to stay and finish the movie - and the 1st time I was discovered was when the Wolf Man was on, and I got to finish watching it. I do remember being a little board in spots at all the talking/story as child - But, when the Wolf Man came into the screen it was well worth it!! Only later on when I grew a bit older did I learn what all the "stupid boring talking" was about, and then it opened up a whole new level of wonderment for me when it came to Horror flicks... And because of that night a Horror fan was born, which is why I have a particular love for Universal Monsters (especially the Wolf Man) in my dark little Horror heart...

My first experience of horror movies would have to be Friday the 13th part 2 on CBS in the late 80's. Really watered down but after seeing it, I was hooked on the genre.

i think my first time is when my brother would bring home Friday the 13th films and let me watch them even though i don't think my parents wanted me to watch it at that age. so i guess that is why i love those movies.
